Title:
The Unique Challenges Faced by Young Adults in this Current Climate
Topic:
This month’s Langenberg Leadership Forum marks our pivot from leadership after 2020 to looking ahead at the future of leadership, starting with a look at the challenges faced by a generation that will be leaders when most of us are retired. COVID, climate change, racial reckoning, challenges to democracy, global conflict are the backdrop for them as they face the stresses and strains of establishing themselves as adults. And for some, of us, this cohort includes members of our group of family and friends.
We are very fortunate to have as presenter Dr. Jill Stratton, a national leader in the field of young adults and leadership, and a friend to many in the Eden community.
About our speaker:
After spending 27 years at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Jill Stratton joined Vanderbilt University as the Assistant Provost on June 1, 2020. With over 25 years of experience in higher education, she has invested a great deal of time and energy in researching college student development, strengths-based leadership, career joy, and the concept of creative flow and has presented extensively at professional conferences, school districts, college campuses, non-profits, and community agencies. At Washington University, she developed courses on the psychology of young adulthood and leaders in context. She also co-teaches a course as part of the Brown School’s Post-Master’s Certificate Program on Developing and Leading Effective Teams with Orvin Kimbrough. Through opportunities to connect personally and professionally with scholars, writers, teachers, and artists on these topics, she is firmly convinced that the more time spent exploring flow and career joy, the more effective people will be in their lives and future careers. Jill is originally from the great Commonwealth of Kentucky and loves spending time with her nieces and nephew: Kate (8), Caroline (6), and Drew (12) who bring her so much joy! Her favorite movie is Inside Out.
